Batch Updates

Danielle Kellogg Updated by Danielle Kellogg

This article will discuss how to update multiple records at once from the Knack Builder.

What is a Batch Update

Batch updates allow you to update multiple records at once based on set criteria from the Builder.

While you can update individual records from the Records section of the Builder by selecting a  specific record to edit. This is convenient for updating records one at a time but isn't very useful if you need to update multiple (perhaps hundreds) of records.

Knack gives you two ways to update batches of records:

  • Manually selecting records to update by using checkboxes to select individual records.
  • Filtering record to update using set criteria by using the "Update" button with the batch update feature.
You can also perform batch updates via import by matching your records to a unique field. See the Import Records article for details on matching to update existing records.

Manually Select Records to Update

Manually select individual records to update using the checkboxes to the left of the record. Here you can select the checkbox for multiple records. Once you have selected to the records you wish to update, click the “Update” button which appears in the top navigation.

Once you have clicked the “Update” button, this will open the toolbox to define which values you wish to update. Here you can choose to update any field on the object.

After adding fields and values to include in the update, click “Next”. This opens a confirmation page showing the number of records being updated. There you can confirm the update with the “Update Records” button. Once you have confirmed the update a progress popup will appear at the bottom of the Builder.

Filter Records to Update Using Set Criteria

If you need to update large amount of records or do not want to manually select which records to update you can use the Batch Update feature.

Batch updates can be used in the Records section of the Builder, by selecting an object to update and then clicking the “Update” button in the top navigation. This will allow you to filter which record you wish to update and then define which fields and values you want to use in your update.

Selecting the “Update” button will open up the toolbox on the left side of the Builder. There you can add your criteria to filter which records you wish to update. Once you have added your criteria, click “Next” to go to the next step to choose which fields to update.

Here you can define which values you wish to update, you can choose to update any field on the object.

After adding fields and values to include in the update, click “Next”. This opens a confirmation page showing the number of records being updated. There you can confirm the update with the “Update Records” button. Once you have confirmed the update a progress popup will appear at the bottom of the Builder.
